| Camp NorthStar is a six-week educational enrichment camp held during the months of June and July. It is designed to offer youth from low- to moderate-income families in our target area the opportunity to a high-quality, challenging and fun summer program that encourages them to reach their fullest potential academically, creatively, morally and physically.
Activities include: reading, computer, financial literacy/management, science (including trips to the McWane Science Center), moral development, instructional swimming, sports and fitness, gardening, art, career direction and NorthStar Bible Camp.
NorthStar Bible Camp concludes each day of Camp NorthStar. We bring in neighboring churches to host VBS-style activities and lessons for the kids. The goal of NorthStar Bible Camp is to plant seeds of Truth from the Word of God and encourage them to find their identity in Christ. We desire to make disciples of all participants so they, in turn, can have an impact on their families and community. Goals of Camp NorthStar/NorthStar Bible Camp:
- Provide an affordable and accessible quality summer program opportunity to kids in our target community.
- Provide a safe, disciplined and nurturing environment to campers.
- Model positive discipline and leadership strategies for our Summer Staff and high school volunteers.
- Foster a love for God, learning and expression of creativity among campers.
- Teach campers the God of the Bible through Bible study, small group activities, and relationship building during NorthStar Bible Camp.
The entire summer program serves youth ages 5 through 13. High school students also participate in our "Leaders-in-Training" (LIT) program and serve as aids to the counselor staff. The latter is comprised of carefully selected and well-trained college students and community members from the local and greater Birmingham area.
